Location Services
Location services are the ways that location data is used by the rXg to enhance the experience of the Operators and the Users.
Things to Enable
RADIUS Accounting in the WLAN
Network -> Wireless -> WLANs -> Enable Accounting
Enable Location Services in the WLAN Controller
Network -> Wireless -> WLAN Controllers -> Enable Enable Location Services
Sites and Floors
The two most important types of locations are Sites and Floors. Sites can have 0 or more child Floors. Floors can have 1 or 0 parent sites.
Place APs on a Map
In the rXg, navigate to Network >> Location. Create a new Location area with type Site. Then create a new location area with type Floor, with your Site as its parent.
Then open the floorplan by clicking on the name of the file uploaded as its floorplan in the area list view. From here you can place your APs on the floor.
Getting Device Locations from RADIUS (connected AP)
- Create a RADIUS Accounting Enabled WLAN
- Make sure Location Events are turned on in the WLAN Controller Record
- Follow stanadard RADIUS setup and debugging to make sure RADIUS is operating as expected
Once these steps are followed, the rXg should begin producing Device Location records when processing Accounting RADIUS packets.
Creating and Placing POIs
In the Location menu, scroll down to the POIs scaffold. Here you can begin creating your POIs. Each POI must be placed on a particular location area. After creating them, you can use the 'move' action in the scaffold to drag the POI to a new place.
Creating and Placing Regions
Regions are a way to operationally divide floors into sub-areas. Regions can be configured to be used to activate space-time triggers, so they are a primary way of integrating location with user experience.
Regions can be configured from the floorplan view in Network >> Location >> Location Areas >> Click on Floorplan
Location in Customer Portal
When the customer is logged into their portal, and the rXg is aware of where the device is, the customer will see a Location tab in their menu. Inside of this tab, they will see a rendering of the floorplan with the POIs labeled, and a 'you are here' labeling of their current location.
